Dr. Kaplan has performed more weight loss surgical procedures using the LAP-BAND® System than any other physician in the Mid-Ohio Valley. His extensive surgical experience means patients can have confidence in the uncompromising level of treatment they will receive under his care.
Dr. Kaplan completed his undergraduate studies at The Miami University
in Oxford, Ohio. He went on to graduate studies in anthropology at the
University of Cincinnati before beginning medical studies at The Wright
State University School of Medicine in 1985. Dr. Kaplan completed an
internship and residency in General Surgery at the Medical University of
South Carolina in 1996 while earning a Masters degree in Microbiology
and Immunology under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Bromberg, a highly
respected surgeon known for his pioneering research in immunology and
transplantation.
Dr. Kaplan went on to a fellowship in surgical transplantation at the University of Cincinnati in 1997 before entering private practice in Greenville, Mississippi, where he served as the Chairman of Surgery at both The King’s Daughters Hospital and Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. In addition, Dr. Kaplan helped launch and served as the medical director of a new breast cancer facility — the B.G. Dowdy Center for Women.
In 1999 Dr. Kaplan joined General Surgical Specialists in Norfolk, Virginia
where he continued his general surgical practice. Mobilized by the United
States Army in 2002, Dr. Kaplan served as the Deputy Director of Surgical
Services for the 865th Combat Support Hospital in Kuwait and Iraq before
relocating to Parkersburg
in 2004.
Since his move to the Mid-Ohio Valley, Dr. Kaplan has been one of the three partners at Parkersburg Surgical Associates, Inc. His surgical skills and administrative experience led him to serve as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Camden Clark Hospital from 2005 to 2008.
Dr. Kaplan is licensed to practice surgery in West Virginia, Virginia and Ohio. He has been certified by the American Board of Surgery since 1997 and is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons.
